Sati Pasala Bundoora, December 2018

Sati Pasala Bundoora held the fifth session at Nick Ascenzo Community Centre, 2 Boronia Avenue, Thomastown, 3074 VIC, Australia on Sunday the 9th December, 2018 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Majority of the 25 children participated at the session were under 15 years old and the following segments were covered in the session.

  1. Understanding Mindfulness (S1): A conversation was initiated to discuss about five senses and which one of those causes the most and the least distraction with the aid of a short video clip. This was linked to the fact why we close our eyes and pay attention to the touch points in mindful sitting meditation.
Following that a short video clip was played to emphasize the importance of using one sense (hearing) at a time. This was further extended in an outdoor activity aimed at mindful listening.
  2. Guided Practice (S2): Mindful walking was practiced outside and mindful sitting was practiced indoors.
  3. Mindful game (S3): The game ‘Human Caterpillar’ was played inside in groups of six.
  4. Reporting experiences (S4): Children’s experience on mindful walking, mindful sitting and mindful game were brought up in the discussion. The importance of being in SMS mode, working as a group by keeping their own space to match with others in the group was emphasized.
