On the 8th November at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, Sati Pasala was introduced to HE the President Maithripala Sirisena. The President endorsed the program positively and encouraged that mindfulness be shared with school children, parents and teachers island wide. He particularly emphasized the importance of using mindfulness to cope with problems students face during examinations (eg Grade 5 Scholarship exams) and the variety of tensions due to serious competitiveness in schools. The role of mindfulness in preventing childhood exposure and addiction to drugs, tobacco and alcohol, as well as the use of mindfulness for protecting children from violence and abuse were also discussed.
The President was apprised of the Global Mindfulness Summit 2018, and he was invited to inaugurate the Summit proceedings at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on February 23rd.
